We hope that you all had a wonderful and safe summer and are raring to start working hard to better our community. Our first meeting of this year will be held on Thursday, September 14th, at the Growing Up Green School, 39-27 28th Street, Long Island City at 7:30 p.m.
In view of the major storms of this past week, we have invited the Community Emergency Response Team to address the membership. This is a very important topic as the Hurricane Season is upon us. Also addressing us Nicholas Gulotta, who is Queens Borough Director for the Mayor. He will discuss ongoing initiatives by the City. He has also moved into the Dutch Kills Community and has become a member of the Association.
A lot of things have been happening over the summer. Foremost is the Windmill Community Garden that we are enjoying. Steve Morena with a team of Jimmy Natale, Larry Carone Tony Benetatos, Dimos Panagoulias, Carl Wolf, Ms. Milagra, Lindy and many others have helped to transform the Park into the beautiful space that it is. We will shortly be announcing the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and the hoisting of the American, Parks Department, Growing Up Green, Flux Factory and Dutch Kills Flag on our new flagpole.
The Tree Pit Revitalization Committee has done a superb job manufacturing and preparing Tree Pit signs asking our neighbors to please keep our neighborhood clean and pick up after their pals.
We will have them available for those interested in placing them in tree pits near their home.
We wish to extend our appreciation to the terrific job of fabricating the wrought iron fence by Mr. Nestor Varela, Proprietor of Mozart Iron Craft Corp. for the Community Garden.
